AFTER a prolonged period of bad news, the region's manufacturing sector received a fillip last month when it was announced that Nissan was investing pounds 200m in its Sunderland plant to begin making batteries for electric vehicles.
While much has been made of the plant becoming a contender for the manufacture of the group's new "greener'' electric vehicles, less importance has been placed on how the cars will actually work on our roads.
