Meijer eyes site to build its first Detroit store
Meijer Inc. plans to sign an agreement to develop a site plan in the next 120 days for a 190,000-square-foot store at the Shoppes at Gateway Park project at Eight Mile Road and Woodward Avenue.
Meijer President Mark Murray told Crain's the Grand Rapids-based retail chain hasn't fully committed to building the store. If the store is built, it would be the first Meijer in Detroit.
BRIGHT SPOTS
General Motors Co. has confirmed it will assemble battery packs for its new rechargeable electric car at a new factory in Brownstown Township. South Korea's LG Chem Ltd. is making the batteries.
