America's automotive industry is in the midst of an unprecedented upheaval amid the worst economic meltdown since the Great Depression.

But that's not having an impact on environmental initiatives at Ford Motor Co., the only one of the Big 3 automakers to avoid bankruptcy protection and a government bailout.

"We have not altered our plans due to the downturn, Ford spokeswoman Jennifer Moore said.
