May 16--After two years of sometimes bitter quarreling, US Airways and British Airways are taking the first tentative steps to settle their differences, aviation sources say.

"There has been contact" between the two carriers, who are currently balanced between a new alliance and continuing confrontation, said a source close to British Airways.

"There could be a huge improvement in relations," the source said. "The climate could change, and (they) could do some things together if the pistols were removed from (their) heads."
