WASHINGTON - For the second time, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched an investigation of seatback failures in Saturn cars.
The new investigation will focus on 1994 models. The safety agency said it has received 10 complaints about either driver- or passenger-side seat backs collapsing or reclining for no apparent reason. In 15 cases, seat backs collapsed during crashes; about 270,000 cars are affected.
NHTSA began a defect investigation of seat backs in 1991-93 Saturns in 1993, but concluded it the following year without further action.
