A number of small shipyards in the U.S. have been granted a total of US$98 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) funds. The 70 grants, awarded through the Maritime Administration's Assistance to Small Shipyards program, will be used to improve shipyards and pay for training programs.
Under the terms of ARRA, the Maritime Administration received US$100 million for the Small Shipyards Grant Program, which had been funded at US$10 million in 2008. The program provides 75 percent federal funds with 25 percent matching funds from the shipyard for capital improvements and related infrastructure improvements. A total ...
