Not far from Washington D.C's National Mall-the "nation's front yard," adorned with magnificent museums, monuments and memorials-Lies a large chunk of wilderness: Rock Creek National Park, known to locals as the capital city's "back yard."
Rock Creek is an oasis for tourists, area residents and wildlife such as red and gray foxes, white-tailed deer, opossum, groundhogs, beaver and flying squirrels. The landscape is spectacular-a green carpeted valley with a canopy of forested trees and wildflowers that bloom in February and remain in full splendor through the summer.
