The title of Grethe F. Rostboll's study of Karen Blixen's tales is taken from a passage in Nietzsche's The Death of Tragedy, which, translated from the Danish, reads something like: "This longing for the infinite is desire's winged flight, in the midst of joy at reality dearly perceived" The infinite, as Rostboll applies the term to Blixen, stands for the multitude of possibilities for human growth and fulfillment which the world offers to those men and women who have the courage and wit to recognize it, while the "reality clearly perceived" refers ...
