INTRODUCTION
Career support addressing the needs of cultural and minority groups has had limited systematic attention in Australia. The focus has instead been on the immediate career needs of mainstream secondary students and, to a lesser extent, on the long-term unemployed. Government policy, resources, support and emphasis have been concentrated on establishing consistent and effective career and vocational education frameworks, infrastructure and support. Inevitably there has been a focus on mainstream adolescents in the transition years (10 and 12), when immediate decisions about tertiary education, training and work options cannot be avoided.
