It was what she heard at a lunch table in Africa that really made her understand.
A Rwandan teen sat down next Corinne Chinkidjakarn, a senior at Hudson High School, and told her that his parents were among the 800,000 Tutsis and Hutu political moderates slaughtered 15 years ago in his east central African country.
In her classes on the Holocaust, Chinkidjakarn had learned about genocide, but it still seemed to her like something that only existed in a textbook.
"I felt completely unprepared when I heard the Rwandan students talk about how they had experienced the same thing," she said.
