Hillel's 85th birthday party was low-budget this year. President Wayne Firestone made his address from his house via webcast instead of from the podium at a New York banquet hall, the usual site of the annual gala. But the organization still managed to raise $875,000, surpassing its fundraising goal.
Even after 85 years and with a tighter budget--$1 million was slashed from the headquarters' budget and staff members were cut at campuses around the United States--the organization is growing.
