Molecular beacons could light way to marking cancer genes

Researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University (both Atlanta, Georgia) are developing technology that Georgia Tech says may make diagnosing cancer a function of introducing molecular beacons into the body and then watching for optical or magnetic signals as the beacons latch onto the genetic sequences that are markers for the disease.
A new company, Vivonetics, has been born out of a pre-incubator program at Georgia Tech to pursue such technology.
