Breast cancer is the most common non-skin cancer, and second most lethal cancer, in women. More than 200,000 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in the United States this year, and nearly 40,000 women will die from the disease. Early detection and improved treatment options have produced marked improvements in survival over the last 30 years, and considerable resources continue to be devoted to identifying factors that place a woman at increased risk for breast cancer.
