Fibromyalgia is a common disorder of unknown etiology characterized by chronic fatigue, diffuse pain throughout the body, and the presence, on physical examination, of multiple points that are tender to the touch..sup.1 In addition, patients may suffer from irritable bowel syndrome, irritable bladder syndrome, headaches, and other symptoms related to altered sensory perception.2 The severity of symptoms varies considerably between patients, but constant pain and fatigue are typical.
