A plan by the Chicago Transit Authority for an open-loop, contactless card consumers could use for paying both transit fares and retail payments could help broaden acceptance of contactless payments, observers say.
The authority, which operates the nation's second-largest public transit system based on annual ridership, says in the next few days it will issue a request for the proposal that calls for development of an open-loop, contactless debit or credit card. In addition, the request calls for development of a reloadable open-loop contactless prepaid debit card, the CTA says.
