The cable system has an initial capacity of 20 gigabits a second, though the design capacity is 250 times that 4.8 terabits a second using DWDM and SDH transmission.

The new cable is only 470 kilometres long, between Lhasa in Tibet and Siliguri in West Bengal, crossing the border at the remote Nathu La mountain pass, 4,310 metres above sea level.

Reliance Globalcom which has bought US ethernet operator Yipes and UK-based enterprise operator Vanco as well as international submarine cable owner Flag Telecom will run services on the cable for the two partners.
