The Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) approved a $1.4 million grant to help Blue Bird secure financing to buy 1,800 engines from General Motors (GM).
GM announced recently its intention to stop making the 8.1-liter engine Blue Bird uses in its propane-fueled buses.
With no replacement engine expected until 2011 or 2012, Blue Bird plans to stockpile the GM engines for use in the Vision for the next two to three years.
Also at its July meeting in Washington, D.C., the council approved the following project grants:
