NEW YORK -- Consumers' economic woes and a need to drive the bottom line at the front end are leading more retailers to offer a wider assortment of store brand feminine hygiene products.
"As the consumer uses private label products that are equal in quality and lower in cost, this has to affect the national brands," says Matthew Neman, sales manager at Premier Care Industries, which supplies products under the Bodyform and Sanitex brands as well as private label items. "We have seen women shoppers turning for the first time to lower-tier brands and private label as a replacement for their premium brands."
