Drilling in the United States and around the world has changed over the years. The most significant changes have occurred in the last 100 years, with the introduction of rotary drilling and top-drive technology. If it were 1935, for instance, and you were exposed to the drilling way of life, you may have heard words like cable-tool, spudder, gin pole, jars and bailers, to name a few. Barney Stockdale and Bob Means were born in that era, and were well-acquainted with these terms, as well as other phrases used in the construction and mining communities.
