Over the past year, frozen dessert dollar sales in U.S. retail channels were up, reported Dairy Foods. According to Carl Breed, director of marketing for BLUE BELL CREAMERIES, the category growth has much to do with maintaining a traditional "comfort food" classification. "Ice cream is a fun, happy, comfort food that makes you feel good when you eat it. In slower economic times, consumers may budget their money a little closer but they also like to reward themselves with ice cream."
