TOMATOES--Eastern tomato markets were not affected by late blight findings, though some growers anticipate significantly lower volumes due to a combination of blight and weather problems earlier in the year. Blight was reported in several East Coast states, but as of July 20, it was not causing prices to spike. Batista Madonia Jr., vice president of sales and operations for EAST COAST BROKERS AND PACKERS INC. claims that blight problems were worse in New Jersey, New York and some New England states, reported The Packer (July 21).
