ACCORDING to a book I have read, it is sadly true that some troops fled the invasion of Singapore (Letters). Some of those who had fought so valiantly turned soft and ran. They even fought women for places in the boats.

It is also true that the British Army was starved of supplies and let down by Churchill, who had focused his attention on Europe.
