Ellen Burmeister's two Steinway grand pianos warranted a special place.
At the rear of her 1955 house on Gilbert Road on Madison's West Side, she added a room with an acoustic ceiling, performance lighting, and two glass walls that overlook her heavily wooded back yard.
But the view from the music room left much to be desired. The foliage had become scruffy and overgrown, and a frosted-glass privacy fence loomed awkwardly.
