DUBLIN: Africa will be hardest hit by cancer - projected to be the biggest killer in the world by 2010 - with a massive treatment gap leading to people dying painful and undignified deaths of cancers that are preventable, treatable and curable.
A landmark report released yesterday at the Livestrong Global Cancer Summit has revealed that the total economic burden of new cancer cases will be a staggering $305 billion (R2.4 trillion) this year, while the treatment funding gap for this year is conservatively estimated at $217bn.
