Fashion designer Peter Soronen, a Farmington Hills native, hasn't done a show in the Detroit area in more than 20 years.
But Soronen, whose high-end designs are worn frequently by first lady Michelle Obama, plans to debut his new line of "short, glitzy dresses this fall not in New York City, where he lives and works but in Royal Oak.
He said he will present the line, called "PS. Peter Soronen, at the inaugural Fashion in Detroit event, scheduled Oct. 1-2 at the Detroit Zoo.
"It was something new and exciting for Detroit, and I just wanted to be part of it, Soronen said.
