The inaugural Modesto Midnight Half Marathon hit the ground running as a sustainable race hoping to leave a smaller footprint in the California valley.
Tony Vice, race owner and owner of Fleet Feet Sports Stockton, teamed up with sponsor Dart Container Corp., the sole provider of 6,000 recyclable foam cups for the Aug. 8 race.
After the first-time event, which attracted 700 participants to what was billed as the valley's only midnight half marathon and 2-mile fun run, Dart collected the cups to be recycled at its plant in Lodi, where they accept used polystyrene foam products for recycling at no cost to the public.
