The membership of the National Recycling Coalition has rejected a proposed merger between the nonprofit organization and Keep America Beautiful, leaving the future of the NRC in doubt.
A two-thirds majority vote would have been necessary for the merger to go forward. However, only 57% of voters favored the merger.
NRC Board President Melinda Uerling said she was disappointed but not entirely surprised by the outcome.
"We recognized from the beginning that the two-thirds majority was a steep hill, and the results reflect that, she said.
