Calif. firefighters catch a weather break

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Crews made progress against California's Station Fire in the Angeles National Forest while moister weather helped firefighters in the Southland, officials said.

Conditions improved to the point that firefighters were allowed to return to the Mount Wilson observatory, closed because of extreme fire danger, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.

I'm feeling a lot more optimistic today than I did yesterday, U.S. Forest Service Incident Cmdr. Mike Dietrich said. We made progress last night, not just due to humidity, but good darn firefighting.
