BP has made a oil discovery at its Tiber prospect in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. The well has been called the deepest oil and gas well ever by partners on the project.
The well, located in Keathley Canyon Block 102 approximately 250 miles (400 km) southeast of Houston, is in 4,132 feet (1,259 m) of water. It was drilled by Transocean semisubmersible Deepwater Horizon to a total vertical depth of 35,050 feet (10,683 m) and 35,055 feet (10,684 m) measured depth.
BP, drilling contractor Transocean and partner Petrobras have claimed the well as deepest oil and gas well ever drilled.
