Milk prices rose in August from previous month

New York dairy farmers got some relief last month as milk prices were up in the month of August from July, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The USDA's National Agriculture Statistics Service's New York office in Colonie reported that dairy farmers in the state received an average of $11.80 per hundredweight of milk sold during August. That's up 10 cents from July -- but $7.30 less than a year ago. A hundredweight is about 12 gallons.

Poultry producers also saw higher prices during August, with eggs selling for 57.5 cents per dozen, up 5.5 cents from July but 30.8 cents lower than a ...
