Three more nylons based on castor oil have come on to the market with additions to Evonik's Vestamid polyamide family and a new material from DSM.
The best known castor oil-based nylon is nylon 11, which Arkema has been selling as Rilsan for many years. A couple of years ago BASF reintroduced its nylon 6.10 under the name Balance with about 60 per cent bio-sourced content. And earlier this year DuPont and Japanese automotive parts supplier Denso Corporation revealed a partly castor oil-sourced nylon with about 40 per cent renewable content.
