Exactly what constitutes an optimal weight -- and the consequences of not being at one -- remains a subject of debate, and studies have come to differing conclusions about the relationship between weight, health and life expectancy. But obesity is linked to several health problems that are collectively known as metabolic syndrome -- a group of symptoms that predispose to coronary artery disease, Type II diabetes and stroke.
