Alaska Gov. Sean Parnell said Thursday he's mounting a "full-court press" to advance offshore oil and gas development in federal waters, which could help offset declining oil production in the state and bolster the economics of a giant natural-gas pipeline to Canada and the Lower 48.
"Having (offshore) natural gas available to plug into a natural gas pipeline means that instead of having a 30- or 40-year gas pipeline, we can have a 40- to 60- or 80-year gas-line," Parnell said. "It extends the economic viability."
