Sep 06, 2009 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) -- Increased capital availability and more stable commodity markets may spark takeover activity in the Australian mining sector after the lull caused by the global financial crisis. Deutsche Bank's Peter O'Connor expects that with the exception of large domestic miners, most takeover activity will be inbound, especially from Indian and Chinese firms. Peter Harold, MD of Panoramic, says many Australian miners are interested in quality base metals or gold assets, which are hard to come by.
