New Mexico Acequia Association Executive Director Paula Garcia announced the legislative priorities for the group after its Jan. 18 meeting in Santa Fe. The Acequia Association hopes to convince legislators to fund $7.5 million for water storage projects in Santa Cruz, Morphy Lake, Cabresto Dam and Tularosa as well as $5 million in infrastructure capital-improvement projects throughout the state. The association will also focus on finding legislative support for water rights transfers from permitted domestic wells to community water systems, and a bill to require the state engineer to present written findings of public welfare and conservation in ...
