Chile's public works (MOP), environment and transport ministries signed an agreement with the private sector to promote the use of recycled tires in road paving, MOP reported in a release.
The four principal tire manufacturers in the country - Bridgestone-Firestone, Goodyear, Michelin and Pirelli - are involved in the initiative.
MOP will carry out technical, financial and social feasibility studies to find the best alternatives to use recycled tires mixed with asphalt to pave roads and highways, MOP undersecretary Eduardo Saldivia announced on national television.
