Buying local isn't always a piece of cake.
That's what the staff of the Nau-Ti-Gal restaurant found out last month when issued a challenge to do just that.
The difficulty also became clear to the man who issued the challenge, Robert von Rutenberg, the restaurant's co-owner. Von Rutenberg challenged his staff to shop only locally for three weeks - no chain restaurants, no franchise pizza or sandwiches, locally owned grocers, no big-box stores for other life needs.
The prize? A $50 gift certificate for either Dane Buy Local or Madison Originals.
