As reported in the last edition of Esprit de Corps, the Canadian government announced on July 8, 2009, a massive spending initiative designed to re-equip the army's worn out fleet of armoured vehicles. Of the $5.2 billion allocated to this program, approximately 20 per cent (just over $1 billion) will be devoted to upgrading and repairing 550 LAV IIIs currently in service.
