The Walt Disney Company agreed to purchase New York-based Marvel Entertainment, Inc. for about $4 billion.
As part of the transaction, Disney will gain the rights to manage Marvel's 4,000 characters, including the mostly comic book protagonists Iron Man, Spider-Man, X-Men, Captain America, Fantastic Four and Thor.
The Burbank, California-based entertainment company will pay Marvel shareholders $30 in cash and about 0.745 Disney shares for every share of Marvel Entertainment.
