Shell is having a two-train GTL plant built at Ras Laffan with a combined capacity of 140,000 b/d as a JV with QP. The first 70,000 b/d train is to be on stream in late 2010. The second should start up by end-2011.
QP and Shell on Feb. 22, 2007, launched their GTL project, which was then estimated to cost $18 bn with $10 bn already earmarked for this. The foundation stone was laid by Crown Prince Shaikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and Britain's Prince Charles.
