Article: San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge reopens.

The Bay Bridge connecting San Francisco and Oakland, Calif., reopened Tuesday with a new section designed to withstand earthquakes, officials said.

The bridge reopened a day ahead of schedule in time for Tuesday morning's commuter rush, The Contra Costa Times in Walnut Creek, Calif., reported.

Engineers closed the bridge Thursday to cut out part of a span and ease in a pre-constructed section that meets state and federal seismic standards.
