Introduction
The recent publication of Ian Simpson Ross's long-awaited Life of Adam Smith (being the closing step of the Oxford bicentennial Glasgow edition of the works and correspondence of Adam Smith) affords the proper opportunity for some reconsideration of Smith's thought and analysis, particularly in the light of the very considerable amount of renewed attention to which Adam Smith has been subjected through the last 20-odd years. Smithian scholarship has been flourishing in variety and sophistication.
In the present exposition, this review shall first describe some features of Ross's reconstruction of Smith's personality. Next comes a summarization of ...
