PRESIDENTIAL Commissioner George Iacovou yesterday dismissed reports in Turkish Cypriot newspaper Kibris that Turkish Cypriot pilgrims to Hala Sultan Tekke in Larnaca have requested to be escorted by Turkish mainland imams.
"Such a request has never come before us. The request, which came to my office today asks that 300 Turkish Cypriot pilgrims visit Hala Sultan Tekke on September 15. There is no mention whatsoever about imams in this text," Iacovou told the Cyprus Mail.
According to the Kibris report there are not enough Turkish Cypriot imams to escort the hundreds of pilgrims expected to visit the Larnaca mosque next ...
