Siyabonga Gama, the head of the freight rail unit of South Africa s national transport company, said he will challenge his suspension over alleged procurement irregularities in court this week.
He declined to comment further today, referring questions to his lawyer, Themba Langa, who didn t return messages left on his mobile phone.
State-owned Transnet Ltd. suspended Gama because of an alleged serious breach of governance requirements in respect of two procurement contracts, the company said in an e-mailed statement on Sept. 2, without saying when the suspension took place.
