Teacher preparation programs in the United States annually produce thousands of teaching candidates. Every spring, these candidates pursue elementary and secondary teaching positions throughout the country. However, there are also thousands of available teaching positions. Candidates must therefore restrict their job search to a manageable number of potential schools. Because teachers strongly affect student achievement (Author, 2003; Rivkin, Hanushek, & Kain, 2005; Rowan, Correnti, & Miller, 2002), how well-trained teaching candidates restrict their job search and eventually choose these potential schools is a question that has recently garnered significant attention.
