Britain needs to replace most of its ageing coal-fired and nuclear power plants over the next decade. Concerns over carbon emissions from coal-fired plants and lengthy preparations for building new nuclear reactors means most of the new capacity being built is gas or wind.
Below are projects that are expected to start commercial operations this year:
