ELEVEN UK cities including Leeds and Sheffield today called for the development of a high-speed rail network that would drastically reduce journey times.

The cities' leaders envisage London-Manchester journey times coming down to one hour 13 minutes and London to Scotland trips taking less than three hours.

The other cities involved are Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle upon Tyne and Nottingham.
