The Virginia National Guard announced this week that it will close its Richmond armory and relocate units now stationed at the facility to other Virginia installations.
The closing of the Dove Street armory is part of the state's budget reduction plan. Closing the Richmond and Roanoke armories will save an estimated $115,000.
Any soldier who will have to drive more than 50 miles to a new duty location will be given the option of being reassigned to a closer unit.
