The residents of areas recently merged into Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) virtually have to fight for every drop of drinking water, this is despite paying water tax to the civic body. It has been three years since the merger of some gram panchayats into the corporation.
The residents of areas like Vejalpur, Thaltej and Sheelaj in New West zone, and Shahwadi and Gyaspur in South zone have since been paying property tax (which includes water tax), even though the AMC has not taken steps to provide basic amenities such as drinking water.
