TECHNOLOGY developed in the North-East is helping a Royal Navy flagship cut its fuel costs and emissions.
HMS Ark Royal is using coatings made by International Paint (IP) in Felling, near Gateshead, which can help it make savings of up to nine per cent.
The flagship recently had her underwater hull coated with IP s premium foulrelease coating, Intersleek 900, during maintenance work in Portsmouth.
It is the 19th UK Navy vessel to be coated with Intersleek foul-release systems, which prevent marine life coming into contact with vessel hulls, reducing drag and cutting fuel consumption.
